I'm 24 and Bonnaroo was a blast.
Got back from Bonnaroo last night around 4am and slept until 7:30pm today! uninterrupted! crazy!
...tis why I'm still up at almost 5am (I better go to bed soon so I can get some work done tomorrow).
I saw lots of bands that were great and a few that weren't ...
Awesome:
Mute Math -- my new favorite band, seriously
Feist -- beautiful voice
Girl Talk -- fun and bouncey as expected. read my interview with Girl Talk.
The Flaming Lips -- I'd already seen basically the same show at Lolla last year, but there's something to magical about a Lips' show. Perhaps it has something to do with dozens of giant balloons, hundreds of laser pointers and millions of pieces of confetti flying around a space ship.
Ween -- These fuckers are funny and crazy. I suggest.
Lilly Allen -- I wasn't expecting much from her, since she is part of the pop universe, but I was impressed. I also really liked her personality -- then again, she was drunk on Jager and bubbly/fun as hell, so how could I not like her?
Whatever:
The Police -- all of the articles I read about Bonnaroo gush about The Police' performance... but let's be serious. It was BORING. It was like listening to a greatest hits album with no jamming and no encore. I have to admit that it was nice to see them, since the last time they were all together was the year I was born.
Silent Disco -- So I missed the silent disco BOTH of the last two years I went, and I love dance music, so I had to check it out. I was sorely disappointed. The Friday night DJ was spinning all top 40 and hip-hop... not at all what I expected at such a festival. I was hoping for something more like what Sasha and Digweed spun later on Saturday night. I was hoping for real EDM... techno, house, even drum & bass. What I got was the same 80's music you hear at Broad Ripple bars on the weekend.
Overall I had a great weekend and came home with a tan. I'll write a more in-depth review later for rockmusicreview.com.
