My home state Senator and top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Lugar, is asking for an exit strategy - a plan "B" - and my former home state governor (when I lived in Ohio) George Voinovich (now an Ohio Senator) agreed.

"It's time for the United States to put together a comprehensive plan for gradual disengagement in Iraq," Voinovich said. "We're running out of time and I don't think it's fair to the next administration to say, 'Hey by the way, we're leaving this baby for you guys to figure out.' "

Thank you Dick and George for giving up your loyalty to your party's mistakes. They're setting an example, showing that a politician doesn't HAVE to nod his or her head at everything the administration does just because of political party. Thank you.

I don't know if you listened to Lugar's speech or not, but one of his considerations was the upcoming elections. He didn't couch it in those terms though. I was listening to Thom Hartmann this morning; he suspects that there's a plan already in place to get us out of Iraq, declare victory just in time to take the wind out of the sails of the only issue the Democrats are running against, at least at this point. It's a scary prospect, especially since the Supremes have seen fit to grease the skids for all kinds of corporate money to find its way into the pockets of several likely suspects.

speaking of Voinovich, he got into it with Hannity recently... This is a tacky blog, but it has the audio:
