Myspace vs. facebook
ADD A FRIEND ON FACEBOOK
Go to profile. Click 'add as friend' below picture. A little box pops up within the window you already have open. You click verify. The little window then says you added them. It closes. You continue where you left off before adding them.
ADD A FRIEND ON MYSPACE
Go to profile. The user's css customizations are covering up the add friend button. Scroll through quiz results in search of the add friend link or image or whatever in the general 'about me' area of the page, maybe in the left column under interests.
Firefox: View: Page Style: No Style.
Found the friend add button. Clicked it. Waiting.
Waiting. Is my Internet down or ?
Oh, no.
Here it comes. ...what the... fucking error code. Like users care what code your system is fucking up with. Whatever. I'll just refresh the page.
Or uhhh, it's not the same page anymore. Now we're at some page that kind of looks like a myspace page but really archaic looking and even the address bar is full of 'error' stuff.
Firefox: Back.
"Are you sure you want to submit the effing form again?" Uh, sure.
Now that I'm back a page, I'll click the link again. For the sake of length of this article, we'll assume it goes through.
"Are you sure you wish to add Tommy Twocents as a friend?
"No, that was an accidental click," I think to myself. Of course I meant it.
Next page...
"CONGRATS!! OUR SYSTEM WORKED! Enjoy your new friend."
If you want to get back to where you were, it's easier to click on 'view profile' and reload the whole profile rather than click on 'back' and deal with confirming sending a form again.
THE DIFFERENCE
Ajax.
