Ever since the Facebook group called "If this group reaches 100,000 my girlfriend will have a threesome," which eventually turned out to be a scam (and had reached well over 300,000) for a college music downloading software called Ruckus, hundreds of groups have popped up promising something in return for getting a large membership total. These promises range from a person's first time drinking to fighting a mountain lion.
Marek Grodzicki had a better idea though. He took this fad and applied a good cause: For Every 1,000 that join this group I will donate $1 for Darfur.
He fully intends on the group getting as large as possible and donating the full amount. Since the group started, it has reached 435,000 members and counting. Messages are pouring in telling him other ways to help Darfur and even other users that are pledging to match his donation.
Additionally, a group has opened called "I donated $1 to Darfur" to take it a step further. With 125 members already, that means that this group alone met 25% of the expected donation from Marek.
