Time duped by fake "Communists for Kerry" website

So get this.

Accompanying its wretched cover story on "Ms. Not Quite Right," the tall and not-even-good-looking far-right pundit Ann Coulter, the editors at Time have an equally nauseating photo essay of "candid" shots that Coulter was more than happy to turn over -- of her childhood, ex-boyfriends, etc.

Now check out this photo that printed with the story:

Time obviously didn't do their research. See at the top of the sign, "CommunistsForKerry.com"? That's not a real political group... it's a parody group which was organized by college age Republicans trying to bring negative attention to Kerry.

The caption now reads:

Idol: Pro-G.O.P protesters at the Republican Convention in New York City last year

Correction: The original caption incorrectly stated that these protesters were blasting Coulter

Fox News was also 'duped' by this group, according to a few sources.

These sources use the wording "duped" in their reporting... but my question is, how do we know they were duped? Even if they admitted to being misled (online) after the fact, there's still thousands of copies of that story incorrectly attributing that sign to anti-Coulter, pro-communism, pro-Kerry protesters. It still makes it look like an organized group of communists support Kerry.

More Mass Graves Found in Iraq

BAGHDAD, IRAQ—Investigators have discovered several mass graves in southern Iraq that are believed to contain the bodies of people killed by Saddam Hussein's government, including one estimated to hold 5,000 bodies, Iraqi officials say.

The graves, discovered over the past three months, have not yet been dug up because of the risks posed by the continuing insurgency and the lack of qualified forensic workers, said Bakhtiar Amin, Iraq's interim human rights minister. But initial excavations have substantiated the accounts of witnesses to a number of massacres.

One of the graves, near Basra, appears to contain about 5,000 bodies of Iraqi soldiers who joined a failed uprising against Saddam's government after the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Oh, you mean the uprising that George Bush Sr. called for? And then failed to support, allowing thousands of people to be slaughtered? Yeah, that one. Even Paul Wolfowitz admitted it in this article from 1998:

President George Bush called upon Iraqis to "force Saddam Hussein, the dictator, to step aside" ... Bush's call quickly inspired mass insurrection in northern as well as in southern Iraq, the Bush administration merely stood by as Saddam crushed the insurrectionists ...

"They were slaughtered," says Wolfowitz, who, during the Bush administration, was a senior Pentagon planner. "I got chewed out by [Gen. Colin] Powell for fighting the decision [not to back them] even after it had been made," he adds. "It was wrong morally and we're paying for it now."
