North Korea Says It Has Nuclear Weapons

North Korea announced for the first time Thursday it has nuclear weapons, and it rejected moves to restart disarmament talks anytime soon, saying the bombs are protection against an increasingly hostile United States.

There's two reactions you'll see to this news:

(1) "OMG WMD!! WAR!! WE NEED TO REMOVE WMD!! TERRORISM!! KOREANS ARE TERRORISTS!! GOD WANTS US TO GO TO WAR!! IF YOU DON'T SUPPORT REMOVING THE WMD YOU ARE TERRORIST TOO!!!" (which, of course, would put us in even more danger of being nuked and probably lead to WW3)

(2) "What the hell did you think would happen when Bush got trigger happy on the rest of the world? Did you think the rest of the world would bend over for him? Did you think the largest economies in the world would just take it and like it? Hell no. They'll do almost* exactly what the U.S. would do: warn us."


Honestly, I'm not shocked. I'm proud to be an American and all, but under the current administration, I have to say I don't blame Korea for announcing this. They're trying to give a subtle reminder that the U.S. isn't the world police and the U.S. isn't the ultimate of ultimates (as we've been trying to prove for the last 5 years by instilling democracy taking over other countries). I'm definitely not saying I support them bombing us. I'm totally against that. But we shouldn't be shocked that they've finally officially warned us that they have them (we figured they have them for a while).

* The U.S.Jesusland would just barge in, take over, convert to Christianity, and if it hasn't been done already, get the ball rolling on capitalism.

The Fake News Reporter Scandal

Remember that story about the fake reporter from the fake newspaper that asked fake questions at real Presidential press briefings?

The story keeps getting thicker. Basically a man going by the name of "Jeff Gannon" has been attending press briefings at the White House for "Talon News", which is a fake news organization ran by a Republican politician (who also happens to run GOPUSA). Where it gets juicy is that his personal website, jeffgannon.com, is registered to the same name as hotmilitarystud.com, militaryescorts.com, and militaryescortsm4m.com (m4m = "men for men").

Gay porn aside, the point of the scandal is that he was a plant -- someone that Bush could call on in order to change the subject or get a softball question.

Keith Olbermann on MSNBC provided an excellent overview of this brouhaha Here is video of what's his name demonstrating his skill in shilling for evil empire. The first is entire story including examples of the actual softballs Gannon gave Scotty and George as well as an interview with the Washington Post's Dana (call me Dirk) Milbank on the implications of the story.
