New CNN President ends Crossfire, says he agrees with Jon Stewart

Not only did they end the Crossfire show, they also fired conservitard Tucker Carlson (thank God!) and cited Jon Stewart's commentary when he was on the show.
Mr. Klein said he wanted to move CNN away from what he called "head-butting debate shows," which have become the staple of much of all-news television in the prime-time hours, especially at the top-rated Fox News Channel.

"CNN is a different animal," Mr. Klein said. "We report the news. Fox talks about the news. They're very good at what they do and we're very good at what we do."

...
Mr. Klein specifically cited the criticism that the comedian Jon Stewart leveled at "Crossfire" when he was a guest on the program during the presidential campaign. Mr. Stewart said that ranting partisan political shows on cable were "hurting America."

Mr. Klein said last night, "I agree wholeheartedly with Jon Stewart's overall premise." He said he believed that especially after the terror attacks on 9/11, viewers are interested in information, not opinion.
Also, according to today's New York Times Editorial:
Mr. Stewart's "Daily Show," which is especially popular with young people, is a reminder that television was supposed to be a "cool" medium, best suited to people whose jugular veins aren't throbbing. And last month, when the tsunami hit Asia, viewers got a chance to notice what they were in danger of losing to talk TV. CNN, with a comparatively large international army of journalists at its disposal, went out and covered the story. Fox News and MSNBC had to depend more on conversationalists in the studio, all of whom agreed that tidal waves were very, very bad.

MORE MEDIA NEWS

Jon Stewart's Best-Seller, "America (the Book)" ... banned?
Library officials in two southern Mississippi counties have banned Jon Stewart's best-selling "America (The Book)" over the satirical textbook's nude depictions of the nine U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) justices.
CBS Fires 4 on Team That Produced Faulty Report on Bush - I still think this is stupid. Nobody seems to know who to blame for the "forged documents". Let me remind you that these "forged" documents were apparently forged to look like documents that did exist before they mysteriously disappeared after the death of some secretary.

Murdoch Buys Rest of Fox Shares in $6 Billion Deal -- Wonderful; as if he didn't already have and use complete control over which news is reported and how, now he also owns all of the company (which owns Fox and DirecTV).

Bush Rejects Bad News -- As if we didn't already realize that. Fox News is good at that, too...

KID ROCK headlining the youth concert during the inauguration festivities for President Bush -- "Vote Bush. Bush Rocks" -- I think Kid Rock pretty accurately represents his party. Oh, and that's not all... "There also will be a performance of "Let the Eagles Soar," a song written by Attorney General John Ashcroft."
